Wow, today I came back home after being gone for a few hours and saw my firemouth literally cut in half. He was still alive but the whole back half of him was gone. The oscar was hovering over him, but for some reason I think the Jack Dempsy was the one who killed the firemouth. The Jack D is only 3" and the firemouth was 5". How do you guy's think it happened?

Oh yeah it is a 80gal tank with 6" oscar, 3" Jack D, and pleco (no more 5" firemouth) Click the link for pics

Sorry to hear but id say the oscar did it just because at my lps they bit just about anything that is smaller than them and pluse it sounds like a oscar attack if he actualy split him open

Sorry to hear about your loss. It is odd though that either one of your fish would have wounded him and not actually eaten him. Perhaps someone was hungry but you came home before he could actually finish the job. Sounds like a mobster movie, fish style!

Up at my local pet shop we feed our baby oscars goldfish every once and a while and they can swallow them in whole ussaly. If you dangle the goldfish 4" over the tank the oscar will jump out of the water and eat the goldfish lol

I also remeber 3 weeks ago i had a friend with me at the pet store and told him to put his finger in the tank with oscars and as soon as he put his finger in the tank BAM the oscar jets across at his finger and bits it within 1 sec lol.
