???I traded this 55 gallon for a smaller tank including stand, light etc. the only thing is this film on the inside of the tank scattered around. It looks like when you spray windex on the glass in your car and don't wipe it>Its on the inside of the tank under the water and i keep saying i am going to try razor blades on it but i tried to scrub it off with no luck. What do you guys think it is and how to get rid of it???

Well those things could be some calcium depostits caused by hard water.  I have an old 60 gallon and that thing was impossible to scrub off.  I tried vinegar and a little came off but it was really tough though.  I got desperate and used the lime away stuff for bathtubs (bad for fishes) but still impossible.  I gave up and eventually lived with the lines I had and used it as a breeder guppy tank.
Just hope it's not the same one I have.  Goodluck.

third mikem----

I have read that people have used hydrocloric acid with success. I don't know how you go about this. Ask a local glass place or home depot for something that you could use to get deposits off .

Lime-away wont work unless you heat it. We use it at work to get the scale off the pots and dishmachines, and you have to heat it for it to work

I borrowed a 10G from my brother in-law and there also was calcium deposits all over the tank. I tried many things in vane. I filled the tank anyways and put fish in. After a while the deposits came off by themselves. I guess if you soak it in water, it will come off after a while.

Does the water actually cover the deposit? Do you fill the tank right to the top? The reason my brother in-laws tank was cover with white stuff is because he never filled it right to the top and he let the water evaporate a couple of inchs, then fill it up a little etc. The deposits never really got soaked. How did you try to remove the deposits? I just used a blue scrubber that you buy at Safeway that is safe for glass. Worked for me.

My uncle succesfuly removed calcium deposits by dismanteling his tank and then actually using paint thinner.  He added something to the paint thinner though.. .I think it was 409 cleaner, but Im not sure.

Hmm calcium deposits

What about using pure ammonia? (If the tank is empty then its fine it will go towards the cycling when you fill it)

A razor blade should get it off.. unless.. the glass is not perfectly flat

Hmmm.. I have the same thing to deal with on my sisters tank.. i need to go clean it.. Will try me own sugestions and tell you how the work.
