what kind of filtration do you use? most filters have separate carbon pads and i dont understand why your mechanical filtration is lacking without the carbon...

also- carbon removes chemicals (meds) and odors, and discoloration, etc. but really is not designed for mechanical filtration.

post some more info so that we can better understand your situation.

I actually use an aquaclear 200, and don't use the carbon for my plants also, and have noticed that there are some particles in there. Not too many, but enough to be noticed. About 2 days after a water change they seem to disappear, so im assuming they settle into the substrate. Do your's disappear after a few days?
