something to do the work of carbon

Since removing the carbon from my filter to aid my plants, there are a lot more little bits and particles floating in the water. What can I put into my filter to help remove these?

what kind of filtration do you use? most filters have separate carbon pads and i dont understand why your mechanical filtration is lacking without the carbon...

also- carbon removes chemicals (meds) and odors, and discoloration, etc. but really is not designed for mechanical filtration.

post some more info so that we can better understand your situation.

I have an Aquaclear filter, and without the carbon bag, all that is left is the big sponge. I would have thought it would pick up the floaty bits, but they have increased SO much since I removed the carbon bag.

I actually use an aquaclear 200, and don't use the carbon for my plants also, and have noticed that there are some particles in there. Not too many, but enough to be noticed. About 2 days after a water change they seem to disappear, so im assuming they settle into the substrate. Do your's disappear after a few days?

many people (including myself) like to just use 2 sponges in the ac filters. we rinse the bottom one and leave the top one for all the xtra bio. it might be something you may want to consider.

No, it's been about a week since I removed the carbon, and I have done a water change in that time, and if anything, there are more floaty bits. I think I will get another sponge. Thanks all!
