I originally posted this in the Plants forum, but thought it might be good to put it here as well for those who might not check that forum:
I am cycling (fishless--my first time) a 58 gallon. The tank is 3 feet long. I was having a hard time finding decent fluorescents for it. Home Depot didn't have any. The LFS had some for $22.95 each. Needing 6 of them and not wanting to spend about $150, I figured there had to be a better way. I checked with an industrial supply place that has a contract with my employer, and they told me they had 6500K 30 watt tubes for $7.88 each. That's more like it. I then got the Yellow Pages and called a couple of places listed under "Lighting." I was able to find some of the same 6500K Philips tubes for $4.00 each!
The point of this thread is to say... check around for deals. By the way.... I asked the guy I bought the tubes from if they had a website or did mail order. Unfortunately, no to both. If you are in the Dallas area, PM me and I'll tell you the place. They also had a display set up with PC and halide lights.
