Hi all,

No doubt, several of you are from Los Angeles (it is a freaking huge city).  I am just curious where yall purchase your fish.  For now I have been doing mostly the petco thing...I have been to a couple other places but I was never very impressed.  I am in West LA

hey! finally a thread i can help answer! haha.

my nearest LFS is PTF (Pasadena Tropical Fish) - it's a bit more expensive but the livestock and whatnot are definately more healthy. They have a good mix of SW and FW stuff. the 2nd closest one to me is Monrovia Tropical Fish (MTF).

are you looking for FW or SW?

if SW, there's always jeff's exotic fish (www.exoticfish.com) in torrance i believe. There then are a few other SW wholesalers in the LA area (forgot the names)...but i know who can help..

hey dat! what were the names of those warehouses?

Hey,

Colesea - what is so bad about the retail chains, I haven't had any problems...yet

Arcab - I am looking for freshwater.  Pasadena is a bit of a trip, but not so bad if I go during a limited traffic time.  Took me an hour and a half to get out there to the Rosebowl yesterday :(

Camaro... If you've had no problems with your local retail chain well then good for you! I used to work for a local retail chain pet supply store around here. The horror stories are posted all over this board. If they're a good store that are just getting a bum rap from nit-picky aquarist who didn't do their homework, I would defend them. But if the store seriously harbors animal neglect (as is the case with a certain chain store being sued in the San Fran area) then I would strongly advise anybody to use their power of currency and not shop there no matter how good the deals.  I no longer purchase fish from the chain I was a former employee at simply because the quality of the fish has gone literally down the toilet since I left. It used to be my fish room was the exception of the usual rule, but now it is just as yucky as every sister store within an hour of where I live. I no longer shop there for any pet products simply because I am disgusted and heartbroken by the animal neglect that occures within the chain and the attitude of corprate management towards it.

But let me get down off my soap box now before I bore you. Shop where it works out for you the best.
