I am thinking about building a stand/hood for my recent garage sale 55G tank purchase. I was hoping to get some ideas and tips from those that have built their own stands/hoods. Pictures would be great.

Hey angryeric. I haven't built a stand, but I've looked into it, and it seems like you can find pretty good plans just by googling. There are some forums more dedicated to the construction aspects of fish tanks, and this forum also has a DIY section that you could look through. I know that one of the most important steps is leveling the stand, so make sure that however you build it, you do that. Do you have any construction/building experience?

i do have some woodworking experience, but not a lot, mostly just speaker boxes and that sort of thing, but i do have help! my main problem is going to be making something that looks nice...
also i dont think that the stand would be a problem, i am more curious about building the hood

It is not that hard to build a stand. And actually not hard to make it look nice. Here is a couple websites that might help.
