My question is that if i buy a protein skimmer can i take out the filter because i heard that u need the filter for circulation?

welcome to the tank. I don't know your experience in keeping fish, but it seems to me you're aiming for a saltwater setup. SW is often for advanced hobbyists.

Yes I am setup a saltwater fish tank. i currently have freshwater fish tank and want to change to saltwater

you can remove the filter but you will need something else for circulation (powerheads probably). You might as well leave the filter on the tank and just remove the filter media

the reason i want to take off the filter is becuase it pump out 400 liter per hour is that too much for a ten gallon or not and it is noisey too

one more question is Hagen AquaClear Powerhead 20 good for my tank??

How much flow you need depends on what the tank houses. If the tank doesn't have any coral in it then 10-15x turnover would be sufficient.

AquaClear powerheads are great from what I've read.

If you really want to get the water moving, seio powerheads do a great job, creates a wide flow instead of a narrow jet of an AC that runs out of force in shorter distance. You cant have too much flow coral or not, people tend to underestimate it. Even in the 10 gallon, but you could go with a few AC's if you wanted.
