Starting a 72g tank

I've recently come to own a 72 gallon tank with a stand, but no equipment. I'm pretty new to this so any advice would work. I'm basically asking what I need to start up a freshwater planted tank. So far the only thing I've bought was Eco-Complete substrate.

Here is a list of what I think I need to start this tank up.

Filter - Was looking at the Rena XP3 or an Eheim (Canister Filter)
Heater - I hear there are ones you can attach to your filter
Lighting - Any ideas on what to use for plants to thrive?


Is there anything else I need to get this tank started? I hear people talking about pumps and powerheads. Do i need these aswell?

You have the right idea. I am a big fan of ehiem series canister filters though. That's what i use on 2 of my tanks. Good luck and can't wait to see some pics when you get all setup! *BOUNCINGS
