Starting a new sw 25g

Ok so i've read lots of threads on starting up a sw tank..... But I don't know if I missed it, but what kind of filter does one use...? Am I reading it correctly that it can be any type of filter as long as it doesn't contain carbon.....?

And if this is or is not the case, does anyone have any suggestions for filters...?

If you're planning to use Live Rock (which is highly recommended), you really don't need a filter. You can either use a few powerheads to move the water around the rock, or you can use a filter with no media to move the water around the rock... in which case you probably will need a powerhead too, to get all the water in the tank moving. You'll also most likely want a protein skimmer, but it's not absolutely in a tank as small as 25g.

Also...most folks in Saltwater run carbon in their tanks ALL the time, opposite of freshwater.

Well that makes sense now, wherever I read about SW tanks that I could find nothing on filtration...

So if I use live rock and say two powerheads at opposite ends that should be good enough?

maybe 3....and a skimmer, depending on how heavily stocked.
