???I'm starting  to plan for a pond I bought at Sam's Club today. It's a two layer one (a small top part that empty's ino a large 4 foot deep bottom.) I'm 16, I've never set up a pond before, but my grandfather lives next door and wants one in his back yard. He said if i dug the hole and installed it he'd let me stock it how ever I wanted. I don't want to put boring Gold fish or koi in. What would you suggest, Note I live in PA so this will only be a Summer Pond, that's also why I don't want koi. Any help would be welcome. ???

What kit did you get at Sam's club?  You have probably already bought it but the best type of liner is EPDM? rubber liner.  It's that most other liners will be brittle and break over years because of the UV from the sun.  Here are a few to check out.

Now in order to keep some fish past summer, you have to have a pond that should be at least 24" deep (2ft) otherwise it will freeze over.  More than that could be even better.  I believe they recommend heating it or using a deicer, if it gets below 0 degrees.

However, if it's only a temporary summer thing, than have you decided where to put your fish once winter hits?  People do keep koi in the winter months also.

However, the only fish I would know that would work for the winter months are crappies, bluegills, catfishes, perches, etc.  The one's you catch in PA while your fishing.

Hehe I use to live in PA.

A guy I know always tell his story of his 2000 G pond that he had in his backyard in California, and he had a 4 ft arrowana.  Since arrowanas are known jumpers to feed, he told me of the time when the arrowana jumped 5 ft in the air to catch a bird sitting on a branch.   ;D
I am not recommending an arrrowana because those fall/winter months would definitely kill it.
