I've started noticing that my LFS is beginning to become better stocked, shelves are filling up, tanks are less empty. I'd like to take credit for it, however I hope it's a good sign and a sign of things to come.
I've visited weekly the last couple of weeks to purchase snails to feed the puffer, and ghost shrimp to gut load for the puffer and cichlids. Both times I've ended up with a dozen shrimp, and half a dozen snails of various types, ramshorn, very small mystery, a trumpet here and there. Sometimes a few calcium enriched crickets, or a pack of frozen blood worms to boot. With the exception of the blood worms, I rarely spend more than a dollar a week for a dozen ghosties. The owner seems to be glad to have someone wanting his troublesome snails.
Anyway other than the great price, this last week, he also snagged a few strands of java moss with the snails he extracted for our puffer. I pointed them out and offered to pay for them, his response was " If you're worried about it, bring me a clump or two a year and we'll call it even for the snails and shrimp ".
The brine shrimp grew well, until I added a few ghost shrimp carrying eggs, the ghost shrimp fry love, and I mean love brine shrimp. So I'm planning on setting up the 10 gal we have to raise ghost shrimp \ java moss in. Last Friday I noticed what looked to be a bamboo or flower shrimp in with his ghost shrimp tank, I might have to go look at it again, and add it to the 10 gal as a permanent resident.
