I'm thinking of picking up a used 40 gallon on a local classifieds site. The tank is a strange dimension though. It's 54x14x12.

I'm just looking for suggestions for what might be a good option for such a long narrow tank. I'm leaning towards cichlids, preferrably SA/CA but am open to any suggestions including non-cichlids.

Thanks.

It sounds from the dimensions it may be a terrarium rather than an aquarium, if this is the case some of them are not made to hold water, if its a terrarium it should be missing the front piece of plastic molding on the top, as this is were the screen slider goes inot it. I would check the thickness of the glass and definatley test it in a safe place before filling it in your house.

I emailed the woman and she assured me it was indeed an aquarium. Apparently she bought it from big al's and it had formerly been a stock tank or something. I opted not to take the risk anyway and the "wife" would have killed me had i bought it. Blah Blah Blah..something about a wedding this spring..blah blah blah.;)

Thanks for the help anyway folks.
