2 schools of 10 small fish (like lemon or neon tetras maybe rasboras)

Also if any of these fish are more fragile to any water conditions please tell me.

It sounds pretty good to me. I really like the "lots of schooling fish" look. It was origenally what I planed my 55g to be....

Personally, if you are going to have gouramis I would not get the dwarfs, since you have a 55g and can afford the larger species. Pearl gouramis are just beautiful in color. I also really like the look of goldens. There is always the fighting facter though, hopefully you won't get two males. Even so I think they would have enough room for you to have a pretty good chance of them getting along.

The amount of cories sounds okay to me. I have never had that many but I notice that people like to have them in groups for larger tanks.

There are lots of species of little schooling fish out there, I would just find out what "look" you are going for then pick the 2 kinds that look best with it!

I hope I was helpful!

Sounds good but if you are going Gouramies with a 55gal like Amazon said....go for the full sized.

I'd go for the neons/cardinals and the rasboras as the schools and get a good bit :).

Cory number sounds good.

Also......Look into Rainbow Fish. They are peacful, very active and just plain awsome. Best in schools of 6.

Um... Big Gouramis and Lots of little fishies?!

A Wise person once told me "If it fits in another fishes mouth - thats where you'll eventually find it." Gouramis as a species are largely carnivorous fish... Think about that for a while...

I did think of the whole Large Fish+Small fish thing, but I really don't think a 4' grouami's mouth is going to be bi enough to eat a full grown schooling fish (rasbora, lemon, danios,)

Perhaps, if you find some small fishy that aren't babies, that aren't you know extremly small like some neons I see at the stores. And then get your gouramis at a young age, sort of like what you would do if you wanted angels and neons. That way by the time the gouramis are big the little fish will already be full grown 1"-1 1/2".

I think that would work.

The problem with that thinking is, the gouramis if they decide to have a shack - they'll get a snack. Might not be the whole fish down the throat, but they could pick one apart pretty easily.

Or they could totally ignore the little ones - I'm not that familiar with gouramis (other than dwarf honey gouramis).

I just want to ask are dwarf goroumis mouths smaller then full sized gouromis. And are there any othere fish that is about 4 inches long that would look good ina pair that have a smaller mouth or would not be interested in smaller fish as food.

Thanks

Rainbows would be a nice choice.

They do well in schools or alone. They grow rather slowly, but can reach 4-5 inches. Most of the Rainbow species look pretty cool when they mature also.

and they're pretty peacful fish. They are aggressive feeders though, so just make sure all the little guys get enough food.

I have a opaline gouramis (the prettiest IMO) and he doesn't bother with the other fish in the tank at all. The cherry barbs are smaller than things like rasboras and danios, and he couldn't care less about them. besides, gouramis are fairly slow.... fast little fishies probably could get away from them.
Personally, I would go with gouramis over rainbows just for the personality (and the feeler arm thingies!!)
