Strange stuff in tubes???

Hi guys,

I have noticed that all the pipes for my external filter have got sone sort of deposit inside them???? Its green and flake, when I squeeze the tube the stuff gets squirted into the tank and gets eaten by all the fish who love it?  Any 1 have any idea what this miraculous free food stuff is?????

I use to get the same stuff in my filter, I always thought it was algae. I just scrubed it out with a cleaner brush I picked up at the LFS...

what kind of filter is it exactly hang on back,canister ect..
i find sometimes during a filter cleaning some crud from the filter will get back into the water and my catfish seem to go nuts for it.i've wondered how healthy that scum is for them.perhaps it's like a form sediment that fish would find in nature,excepet that is comes from the filter instead.perhaps it's loaded with bacteria that the fish like.all this is speculation though.

I get it all the time. Old toothbrushes also work if your tube is big enough. But i never tried giving it to my fish. Are you sure its safe?

Green and flaky is usually algae. Probably harmless for the fish to eat. If they don't like it, they'd spit it out.
