Anyways, stripped my female maingano last night, heres a vid of it.

so question
when you strip her, does she ever end up swallowing some to "protect" them from you?
so you just take the tweezers, or whatever they were, and force her to open her mouth which then lets the fry think mom is giving them the ok to come out?
i found that interesting

Shes a Mbuna, mouth brooding cichlid, after about 20 days you have the option of 'stripping' her of her fry so she doesnt spit into the tank. Dont worry, I didnt harm her ;) Ive stripped her... three times now.
EDIT - Fuzz, Im not sure if shes ever swallowed any fry, basically take the tweezers and open her mouth gently.

i was wondering what was going on with fish , at first i was like whoa gutsy abusing fish on video for us on MFT...lol but now i see what you did, interesting. What is wrong with spiting into tank? couldn't you just let her spit into tank and net fry then?

Cool vid. my female lab is currently preggers (either her third or fourth time, lost count since she is identical to the other female in there.) I've never had them release the fry, they always swallow them, so maybe I'll give stripping a shot. That all depends what a PITA is it to catch her. LOL Thanks for the video, Katie!

Nice work, Katie.
It's nice to know we have someone right here on MFT in case we need advice on how to strip...fish, that is.

Where will you be raising the fry? Alone in a tank of their own? With other fry?

Nope, fry were culled immediatly, they are hybrids, and I dont have the space for them right now. I do have about ... 4 hybrids from another batch growing out to see how they turn out. The female was getting the snot kicked out of her thats why she was stripped slightly earlier then i'd like.
