We have 130 gallon fresh water tank, we only have 10 fish, 2 angel, 4 catfish, 1 algae eater, 1 goldfish, and a couple dwarven gnomes ( I think that is what they are called). We have tested the water numerous times and we are in good shape, it looks like a algae attack but if we put algae kill in it, it just raises the nitrates level and it is still a green cloudy color. I don't have a good aquatics store around the pet stores think the tank is getting too much direct light. We closed the blinds for two weeks and it didn't do a think even with cleanings. Please we are willing to try any ideas. Thanks!

What temp do you keep the tank at and how long is the tank light on? I use to have a small aquarium in my kitchen and although it had no direct light, it certainly grew algae fast. Also the length of time the tank light is on adds to it 8 hrs a day is enough in most cases. Is your tank planted? Do you realize goldfish are not tropical and prefer colder water than the rest of your fish?

Well most water testers don't really test algae. Algae is a plant formed by lots of sunlight and sometimes warm water. You shouldn't keep the hood light on for more than 8 hours a day and the tank should be away from direct sunlight.

** did you know, like the comment above mine,
that goldfish are not compatible to live with your other community fish due to different preferences & fish community grouping?
