Stupid light question

As you can probably tell by my question, I really know nothing about lights on aquariums. I know that fluorescent lights are best, but I've been looking for a used 20g to use as a quarantine tank, and all I can seem to find have incandescent light hoods. Could I just put compact fluorescent bulbs in the hood just like I do in the lights in my house?

Yes you can use the compact flourescent lights. Alot of people on here have done the same thing, myself included

ep you deffenatly can...thats what i do and have had tremendous success growing plants with them.

For a quarantine tank, you don't necessarily need light. I personally find it useful, as it allows you to really see the condition of your fish.

As others said, screw-in fluorescent bulbs work fine in tanks.

I got a "hood", you know, the little thing that's a cover/light fixture, for my 20 gallon and it uses flouresent bulbs. It's a pain in the rear to replace though, the bulb dosen't want to come out! But that's not typical.
