ok so i've been thinking about changing the gravel i have in my tank to a darker gravel or a sand substrate .. but anyways.. how would i change it because i have no other tanks to put the fish in while i would change it.. what can i do with the fish while i change it if anything?
I've been changing mine out the past week. I wanted a smaller sized gravel, so I substitute about a pound or two each day. I don't have anywhere to store my fish so this is about the best method I could think of.
Do you have any of those plastic storage bins? You could probably set up a temporary situation with some of the old gravel and an air stone while you change out the old gravel.
THe fish will stay out of the way. Do a good gravel vac then remove the old stiff. Pour the new stuff in slowly. I would rinse the new Gravel before adding it. I would fill you filter with some old gravel for the bacteria to spread to the new stuff.
