I have previously only used power filters. I'd like to get a couple of canister filters for my 29g and 55g tanks. I've read that they preform better than my bio wheel filters and are quieter.

Here's what's important to me:

Ease of use - not a rocket scientist here
Silent Running - 29g in my bedroom and the hubby is about to chuck our power filter... after about a year's use it developed a "noise" no mater how clean I get the impeller, I still can't get it back to a silent run.
Good preformance
Not really looking to break my wallet if possible.

I'd be more than interested in purchasing a used one, should anyone have one with all it's parts and in good working order. :)

Thanks in advance for the information.

I love my Rena XP2. Silent, extremely simple to clean and disconnect with no mess, works really well at keeping the tank clean, and the price is amazing if you shop around.

I have had mine for about 6 months.

I have an eheim 2236 for my 55 and love it. I also have a whisper 60 on there too that I use to gather bacteria for starter tanks (the 60 is off other wise). and love it also. The Eheim has zero noise, the whisper (HOB style) does just like your bio-wheel model. So, a cannister in the bed room would be the way to go the only problem I see noise wise is not really the filter but from the air pump. I've tried em all and they all are in about the same db range. Only way to hide it is to have an under the tank compartment to store it.

Good luck with the hubby! :p
