i would suggest getting a pleco that is bigger than 2 inches... i tried buying a small pleco and three of them died. I found through research that under 2 inches they are not hardy like the bigger pleco are. So i bought a 2.5 inch one and wow he is hardy can make it through anything pretty much.

Think he/she means they want a pleaco that will stay small, and not outgrow the tank they have.

I have a clown pleco in a 20 gallon high, he hides every minute of the day but they don't get bigger than 3-4 inches.

Yes that is what I (he) am talking about a Pleco that dosent get 9" like them one they have now. I was thinking about a Clown but I have to find a LFS that sells them. When I get my 75G tank I iwll be getting their 9" Common Pleco. The deal is that I buy them a new one and I get the really big one.

Thanks

what has been said about the clown is true, it does hide ALL the time. and ive had mine for almost a yr, so its more than had time to get comfortable. They are just the shyest of the shy, so if you want something you can see, heh i would suggest something else.

Its weird that you guys are saying this about the Clowns. Mine are not shy at all. They are always visible. Both of them. You just have to make sure there are tons of hiding spots. They hide cause they dont feel safe. I will agree they are one of the hardest to make comfortable. But once you do it they are great. :D

Yeah, we've had ours for almost 2 years now and he was in a tank with like thousands of places to hide, he was ALWAYS in the same spot, I NEVER cought him ANYWHERE else except once in the middle of the night I cought him cleaning some algae off of a lava rock when we first got him.

pitbull

I really enjoy my pitbull pleco. Now I'm wishing I had gotten more than one...story of my life. It's pretty active, going from plant to plant all day long and occasionally schooling up with the loaches for a lap around the tank. But its colors are understated, so not as flashy as other plecos. But who needs flash when you've got personality, right? ;)

My other pleco is (I think) a recife. Now that is a flashy little pleco; dark sable brown with yellow spots. I picked it up by mistake--the tag on the tank at the LFS said pitbulls. A lucky find since I had no idea what I was getting.

Oops, forgot something. Maybe you should consider getting two of whatever small pleco you find? Mine both seem to like the companionship of other similarly shaped bottom dwellers. Has anyone else noticed this? If you brother already has otos or something of the like, that might do the trick.

I vote Bristlenose; they never get bored of cleaning and are pretty friendly.
I also really like my Queen Arabesque if you're leaning towards something fancy- took her about 8 months to actually come out into the open, but now I see her all the time and she's just such a pretty site. :)

I recommend a Clown Pleco or a Rubbernose Pleco. Both of them stay small. If you decide to get a Clown Pleco getting some driftwood would be a good idea. Whenever I see mine he's always on my driftwood. Bristlenose are a good option also if you have trouble finding a Clown.
