hi ive had many kinds of fish in the past but i am wondering about african cichlids.Iv'e been doing lots of research on electric blue and electric yellow
(Sciaenochromis fryeri and Labidochromis caeruleus)
and i was wondering if they can live togeatherin a 40 gal

If they are both african, you'll probably be fine, just don't mix african and south american unless you plan on severly overloading your tank to avoid territorial rumbles....

Well the only problem with that mix is size difference. Electric blues can get up to about 8". So they will get much bigger than Electric Yellows (yellow labs). They also have potential to get a little more aggressive than the yellows which may cause some problems. It CAN be done, but i'm not sure if i personally would attempt it in a 40gal tank.

Sciaenochromis fryeri and Labidochromis caeruleus will get along fine! I have both in my 80G and they don't even look at one another.

Both pretty fish IMO

since the yellow labs tend to be more of an omnivore than many other mbuna species, i would also think that they would make pretty good tankmates.

in a 40 gallon though, that isnt a good idea.

I found my electric blue to be the fastest and greatest predator in the tank when feeders or other type of ffod was added. But I also found it was the most timd fish in the tank, never bothered anyone else, but this could have been the luck of the draw, someone elses electric blue may be very aggressive,. Thats just my own experience

I have really never had a problem with my elec blues.

The only ones they are "some times" aggressive towards would be their mates.

my friend just added an electric blue, yellow lab AND a south american to her 29g that had one rusty(?) cichlid already in it, and so far there getting along fine!!

What size are they? If theyre small now its going to get awfully crowded and territorial in that tank. What sort of Saouth American are we talking here?
