Anyone know about tadpoles? We were walking along a creek this morning and saw some huge tads! they looked to be 4-5 inches long with a head about 1-1 1/2 inches in diameter, and they looked brownish. I also saw normal sized ones 1/2 inch max head and black.
Any ideas? Might try to get one and put it in a tank so my 5 year old can watch the transformation.

I just got a bunch of the 1/2 in ones and put 4 of them in about 3 gallons of water, one just transformed into a frog over the weekend while the other 3 are just have hind legs. It is really an interesting transformation. They are just like common wood frogs, peepers, what ever you want to call them. While the huge ones are probably a form of Bull Frog, they usually stay as a tadpole for more than one year (I could be wrong about this) and then they transform into frogs. its really fun to watch them change so I would say go for it and plop a few of those small guys in the tank. But make sure their is ready access to land inside the tank, or else the poor guys will drown once thier gills become disfunctional.
