The number one thing is lighting. Kill any extra lights in the room that will prevent glare on the tank. If the sun shines on it, wait till it's dark. And have as much light shining in the top of the tank that you can. Using flashes that go though the glass are easy to end up with a lot of glare.

yeah definitely kill all the lights and make room dark and turn off flash light on camera and thats how i get my pics. clarity is sometimes hard to get when you have things in your tank moving so take account into that. to kinda show you the clarity my digital camera takes you can look at my avatar or my thread in this section called new pics of the 55g

Thank you all, for some reason these answers didn't show up for me until recently. I will give these ideas a try. I know how to use manual cameras, still have a little trouble with digital ones. And Newman, I didn't realise there was a thread for taking photographs, I'll have a look for it.

One thing I've realized...having a REALLY nice camera helps A LOT! LOL! I was taking pics with my dad's nice 8.1 MP Sanyo camera that takes beautiful action shots and regular shots and couldn't get barely any of my fish pics to turn out. I deleted more than I kept. Then I "stole" my friend's 10 MP DSLR Nikon D5000 ($1000+ camera) and got some incredible shots of my tanks and individual fish. So, that always helps. :p
