Hello,

Please see my tank, it's a bit bare!

Can anybody suggest anything to bulk it up or at least make it amazing looking like some of yours? And nice for my little darlings ;)

Thank you in advance :p

hahaha, that tank looks very nice and very clean.
Can I suggest the use of rocks though? I'm sure you can work in different sized and shaped rocks into your scape. :)

I agree! More plants. If you get some hygrophila, that would look nice. However, I have had difficulty with the larger types of hygro in short 5 or 10 gallon tanks, so beware of that. If I remember, your tank is 20 gallons, right? If so, I recommend giant hygrophila, sword plants, water wisteria, bunch hygrophila (sort of like long-leafed anacharis) or anacharis. Anubias nana would look great on the bottom because it likes subdued light. Dwarf sag is also a good bottom plant, I hear.

what kind of 20 gallon do you have(ex. long or high) and what kind of pleco?
some rocks would be great in that tank!

Personally I'd use a variety of grass-like plants to make the anubias and java fern really stick out as features on the wood. I'd pile the substrate higher on the right to create some form of landscape idea, and plant vallis thickly from there, moving across the back and forward in that corner before moving into areas of hairgrass as a foreground. Some creative trimming could get a really nice gradual move from the tall vallis into the short hairgrass. Some narrow leaved crypts or dwarf sagittaria would also look lovely scattered here and there between the vallis and hairgrass as a midground plant with some broader leaves. I'd also move all the equipment to the right side to be hidden behind the vallis. Finished with some pebbles of different sizes scattered around the pieces of wood, plus a few larger random ones elsewhere, I reckon it'd look really lovely and natural.

That's my personal taste though :p you already have a very pretty tank!

I was gonna suggest floating hornwort as a blanket to cover the surface of the water...I think that looks very cool and shades low light plants very well from direct light.

Thank you for all your ideas!

I found some plants but haven't arranged them very well, we're moving in a months time so I'm going to make it a bit more creative then!
My LFS didn't have any names on the plants so I have no idea what they are!

Also I don't know what watt my lights are, they came with the tank setup...*twirlysmi

It doesn't look so bold anymore!;)

Thank you very much!:p The fish love the plants!

The fish in your profile pic Bassbonediva (a betta? we call them siamese fighting fish I think), would I be able to have one in my tank? (If I didn't have my mollies) would they get on with the guppies?! x x x x x

I've had a male betta (Siamese fighting fish) with male and female guppies and platies. It REALLY depends on the attitude of your male betta. I have one or two that would do fine in a community tank (in fact, Tristan, the one in my 55gal, is a young male and he gets on fine with everyone, even the female bettas...but he's young). I have quite a few (Edward, Alec, Dragon, Emmett, and Amun, to name a few) who I wouldn't even trust with a snail...although Emmett has done well with his two otos. Also, I would trust mollies with a male betta. The mollies can be a bit aggressive with slower-moving fish like bettas (from what I've read and heard). IDK. If you can find a laid-back betta, I'd say go for it if you have the room. Just have a smaller (~5gal) tank available in case the betta doesn't work.

Some mollies can be very aggressive. I have a male that grew a whopping 3 inches in a month. He pushes everyone around. Even my blood tetras are afraid of him!
If it's a stock hood that came with the tank, you might have about 2 WPG. It should say on the bulb how many total watts.
