I'm unbelievably bored with my 2 gallon hex (yes I was the one with the "leaky tank" thanks to pooky who posted the message for me while I was freaking out ;) ) Anyway I got it figured out now, but I'm soooo bored with it! Its not till this summer that I can upgrade to a larger tank. It has an UGF and I was thinking about disconnecting it, and replacing it with a sponge filter. Then putting sand and live plants in it. (Right now I just have gravel and this huge fake amazon sword who pooky generoulsy donated to me but is freakishly large for my tank) My frogs love it though. But since its such a small tank, would adding sand and live plants screw up my ph levels and everything, would it be a bad idea for such a small tank. And if its okay what kind of plants could I add to such a small tank? (Keep in mind I have low lighting too) Thanks so much for any ideas, or suggestions!!!!!!

If its play sand (Home Depot, Lowe's, hardware stores), it should be silica sand and flame sterilized. This is inert, and would not affect the water. If its carribean play sand this may affect the water PH I believe. You could use Tahitian Black Moon Sand. It looks pretty good in small tank I saw with live plants. It may be more than you need at this time though. As for picking a low light plant, maybe a small Java Fern or Anubias? I not too keen on low light planting.  *twirlysmiley*
