Tank Lid . . . All Glass or Plastic?

Years ago (12+) my first tank had an all glass cover. Something like two panes of glass with some sort of plastic hinge and the back two or three inches was plastic so you could cut out for filters and stuff.

When I got back into the hobby a couple years ago the tank came with a plastic hood/lid which incorporated a glass window for the light. However, now it seems the tank is darker than I remember. (I have always noticed this just never posted this question).

Will an all glass cover allow more of the ambient light and light from the fixture?

I am thinking of getting one but I thought I would find out if I am just crazy.

I would think that an all glass hood would allow more light in since it isnt an opaque area to block the light. I have four tanks and they all have sold plastic hoods. I do have a friend however that has four tanks too and three of them are glass hoods. I think it is mostly a matter of preference and what kind of fish you have in the tank. Some fish like more light.
