Well. Beautiful tank, the lovely calico ryukin goldfish...I think I need to put him to sleep. I transferred him to a 5 gal. tank and I'm giving him some aloe medicine for his fins that got ripped up by my fish. All he does is lay on his side at the bottom of the tank. He moves some if I poke the glass and when I have to hand feed him (since he cant swim to the top)...I don't think he can swim upright at all he's always sideways. It seems like a bladder disease- I've heard that you can poke a hollow needle into their bladder to get the air out, but I'd miss probably. I feel like this is a pretty miserable way to live sooo....
What's the least painful way to put him down? Can't I do anything to help him get better? I've heard of putting him in the freezer and putting baking soda in the tank. I can't do it :<

this one sounds like there's no recovery...I also agree with freezing for tropicals but this is a coldwater fish........ set your freezer to the lowest setting then and hope he goes to sleep before his cells rupture....x_x

I was talking with my LFS yesterday about best methods, and they said to put the fish in a bowl of its own water into the freezer, then they will literally go to sleep. Is that better than shocking them by putting the fish into ice water and then freezing? The old thread about humane methods seems mixed on this matter.

I think I will keep this one in mind. It's sounds the least painful for him. Thanks for your advice guys I just don't know if I'll be able to do it. waa

I mean before I do, is there any way to maybe save him? I've heard a lot about those homemade gel foods being really good for them and if it's a bladder problem (which I don't know what else it could be), then I'd stop feeding him the Hikari food. His gills are perfect, his fins are healing, he doesn't gasp for air, he eats what I feed him....I don't think he's in pain but he's probably just bored out of his mind. That's why I think there could still be hope for him.
