i am going to buy a new tank soon, but only have enought money to get a 20 gal maximum. how many fish will i be able to keep together (obviously not many) or will i need a larger tank altogether? also, if i can keep them in that type of tank what would be some suggestions to keep in there? thanks

Are you looking for cichlids specifically? A 20g is a bit small for cichlids, but certainly there are options.

There are several smaller species of cichlid. German Blue Rams, Apistogrammas, as well as some dwarf species from the African Rift Lakes, including some species that have neat "shell-dwelling" habits like Neolamprologus brevis and multifasciatus.

i really would just want some cichlids because i think they are very interactive and not as boring as some other fish. and i dont care how many i get or what they are, just as long as im not going to overload the tank. what is the "rule" with cichlids per gallon or whatever?
