Do you really think tiger barbs would be ok? I've got some in my brother's tank that he doesn't want. He wanted to just feed them to my o's, but I thought that would seem pretty cruel since they were the first fish I bought. But if you think they might stand a chance, that could save me a few bucks.

Congo Tetras or Burno Aries Tetras are very nice addition to an Oscar tank, as well as fast enough to get away. Just make sure the tetras are bigger than the Oscar can swallow.

SO how big tetras or barbs do we need for an 8 or 10 inch oscar. And how long are they going to last in a 55 or whatever. I am not very convinced this is nothing more than prettified live food

Congo Tetras and Buenos Aires Tetras are actually torpedo-shaped swift swiming fish similar to the Giant Danio, not at all like their cousins the black skirts or bleeding hearts. They can each get to be about 8"-12" when fully grown out.

Congo Tetras have a silvery body, with long fins that contain a purple irridecences.

Buenos Aires Tetras are silver in body, with short red or yellow fins.

I have kept these two speices of tetras in with oscars before without any difficulties what so ever.
