I've had a Hagen test kit for some time now, but when I was in the process of moving, I lost the booklet with the info on how to go about testing the KH and GH.

Can anyone help shed some light on this?

Re: Hagen Nutrafin GH/KH Test Kit

For GH:
1) Take a sample of the water to be tested with the pipette. Use it to fill a clean test tube to the 5 ml line.
2) Add 1 drop of GH Reagent into the test tube. Insert cap. Hold in place with finger and shake well to mix. A pink color should result. Attention! Always use the cap. Avoid skin contact. If the color of the mixture changed to blue after adding the drop, the hardness measure is below 20 mg/L (ppm) CaCO3.
3) Continue to add one drop at a time and shake after each addition. Count drops and stop adding drops when the color changes from pink to blue. (See back of booklet). For best results, hold the test tube flat against the paper and read with a light source behind you.
4) Multiply the total number of drops by 20 to determine the General Hardness in mg/L (ppm) as calcium carbonate (CaCO3).

The KH instructions are similar except that you use the KH Reagent with an initial blue color after one drop but if you get yellow/lime after one drop the carbonate hardness is below 10 mg/L. Keep adding one drop at a time until the color changes to yellow/lime. Multiply the total number of drops by 10 (not 20) to determine the general hardness in mg/L (ppm) as calcium carbonate (CaCO3).
