Just a follow up: We were gone nine days. I left all the fish at home - the betta now has a heater. I did jack up the furnace just a bit after husband had set the thermostat. I dropped a 5 day disc into the 16g and 26g tank and just a little piece in with the betta. I turned off the lights. I spent nine days worrying. We had a unprecedented cold spell that supposedly got down to 8 degrees and snow - which frequently means no power in the Pacific Northwest because of the trees that go down. I worried some more. (It was also cold down at the ocean.) When we got home, I found everything thing was just fine! The tanks were all sparkling clean. The 16g hadn’t touched the disc. The 26g had eaten the whole thing and were obviously very hungry! But they hadn’t eaten the fry and so the population has increased. In fact I am getting warnings from my grown children that they do not want aquariums for Christmas! Darn!

here in Canada, we have thanksgiving in October! So happy Thanksgiving to all you *Americans*!

Once we had a vacation on a beach. I got a cheap pair snorkel\goggles, and found a seaweedy patch. It was lush with hermit crabs, razor clams, crabs, even little fish!
