That is why I dont usually goto the petco near me.

I find the minute I walk toward the fish section, it smells like ..well stinky fish water.

I bought a false SAE from petco. I monitored the fish for literly a month, then bought him, and q-tanked him for 3 week.

Once you get a disease in your main tank, which the med kills all your plants, you never NOT q-tank a fish again. Lesson learned...lesson passed on to you guys w/o q-tanks. I dont really fear the petcos anymore....I q-tank the fish. If he gets sick or dies, I treat him, or return him.

We don't have a petco around us. Our wal-mart has this problem though but how suprising is that? I think that there should be check ups on places that sell fish to make sure that they have proper conditions for them. I hate to smell a tank at a lfs. That's a big downturn for me! :D

he, i wrote a letter to the people who head the whole petco chain, and i got them to check out the store near me. it's been better lately, but not improved too much.
the one thing that really irks me, is how they place totally incompatible fish together. like they put several red-tailed sharks in one small tank! even i being not as wise on these topics as i should be know better than that. plus, they try and sell you fish that'll either a) outgrow your tank b) eat all the inhabitants in your tank or c) die the day after the guaruntee runs out. arg!
everyone ought to write a letter to the people who run the chain. i did, and it certainetly solved, well, relieved a few of my problems with the petco. luckily, there's a better store only 30 minutes away. *sigh*
fishes are animals too...
