So, I started my hunt for some Cockatoo Cichlids (Apistogramma Cacatuoides)

The LFS that I always visit doesnt have them but have already shown interest in purchasing some when I start breeding them...

I stopped in at another LFS about 15miles from my house to check out what they have. They didnt even have a quater of the selection as the one I usually goto. I looked around for a bit, nice clean tanks they had but fish were alot more expensive here. Before leaving I asked the guy behind the counter if je ever gets in an Cockatoo's and his reply "I have never even heard of them, what is their scientific name"?

of course I couldnt remember that...

I am off to check out another LFS sometime this weekend...

I would really like to be able to find these fish around here so I can be selective in my pickings...

But if need be I will order them online but so far I really havent found a place online for them yet...

Try a google search on apistogramma sale. There are a few good breeders and importers around.
The prices at cichlid exchange were a bit weird - a few very high, but lots bargains. I would undoubtedly buy wild apistos or dicrossus filamentosa at those prices.

If you're still looking for apistos -- as SoulFish mentioned, you might try Aquabid.com. In particular, I bought (via bid) some Apisto Panduros (1 pr., $10) and Laetacara Dorsigera (another docile dwarf S.A. cichlid, 1 pr., $10) from "Apistodave," a breeder in Oregon. He provided healthy, high quality fish, as promised.

You might want to just check the shipping costs -- the cost from Oregon to Hawaii was a tad high -- $25 (ouch!), but well worth it -- I love the fish.

Good luck.
