they definitely don't get over 10 inches. no debate on that. planet catfish says 4.8" for pim pictus, and usually they err on the side of wild sizes, so i buy it.

but most probably would not reach this size but Ihave seen several that are 4-5 inches...

I put 4-5.... I have yet to see a bigger one... maybe if they were housed in something bigger than 75 gallons...

i trust planet catfish as a reputable source, and usually, the size they list is the largest WILD-caught size, which is very often larger than in our aquariums. i do not believe pim pictus can reach 6", based on that, and based on that the largest i've ever seen was barely over 4".

Planet Catfish says that the Columbian version grows slightly larger than the Peruvian one.


Of the two, the Peruvian version has larger more dominant spots.

I have a pictus that is six inches! Ive had him for about a year and a half and hes been six" for some time now. Seen as though he has been this size for quite a while I dont see him getting any bigger. But he is six ".
