Tiger barb problems

Hi! So I have some tiger barbs an I'm noticing that one seems to be nipping and chasing the new barbs I just got. I put him in a temporary fish bowl and I'm changing the water every day for 2 days now, but should I just put him back in the tank? Is the chasing and nipping normal? Thanks!

Tiger barbs are known fin-nippers, but if kept in a proper shoal, the nipping should be kept to a minimum. How many do you have, what sized aquarium, and what other tankmates do you have with them?

Also, has the tank completed the nitrogen cycle? How long has it been established?

I have 5 now (one died last night) in a 10 gallon aquarium and no other tankmates. The tank has been running for a few months now but after my platys died i got tiger barbs.

They need a larger tank in my experience. With only 10 gallons, it is going to be difficult to keep them healthy.

The only prob I'm noticing now is that there biting each others noses. What are they doing. Is it mating?
