Tiger barbs how to tell male or female?

You guys are all correct.
Males have the orange/red noses -
and if you look at the fin tips, the orange on the males is much brighter - as the males mature the colors become more vibrant.

At least that's what has happened in my tank...

Yes, that is true. I have one male and four females. After they've adjusted to your tank, after a few months, You'll also notice that your females become noticebly rounder in the middle. The Males stay trim and thin. Plus, like has been said before, the males have deep red noses and very vibrant fins.

Yes! The females bellies get bottom heavy. I thought they were sick! It's almost as if they become trianglular, and I believe there is a small line that runs length wise down the middle of their bellies.
