I plan on getting a timer for my planted tank. I was looking at a few last night and had a question. What's better: the daily or weekly timer?

The daily timer was digital but the weekly timer was not. Do you have to reset the daily timers each day, or what? I've never used one so I thought it would be best to ask before buying the wrong one.

I think they daily time would do just fine for you. The weekly timer is more for changing the light pattern day by day. I just bought 2 daily ones for mine (one for the lights and one for the air pump) and I think that would be your best bet. I'm not sure how well they keep time in the long run or if there is any difference between the two in those regards, but I would imagine that the digital daily one would be more accurate for keeping the time.

Ok...makes sense. I was hoping to find one at the store with two outlets since I am running two different fixtures on my 14g but I did not see any like that. I guess one will just get turned on a few hours later when I get home from work.

I was looking for the same thing but couldn't find one with two outlets where I could do two separate times on them, but at my local ACE hardware they had a two pack deal for like $10. I just have an extension cord with one time plugged into one side and the other one plugged into the other side.

I'm not sure what a daily and weekly timers are. I have several 24 hour timers and they work fine.

I think Kent (maybe not, doesn't sound right), anyway, one of the big name Marine equipment manufacturers makes a power strip that has a built in timer. It's kinda high for what it is IMHO, and they also have one with two timers on the same strip. But it's also more money. Pretty neat though.

Yeah, I've seen those strips with the timer built in. As for the timers that I saw they were advertised as "daily" and "weekly". I think I'll go ahead and buy the daily timer and give it a shot. It's less than 10 bucks, so what do I have to lose?
