totally setting up a pico...

maha pointed out a couple things that are freaking awesome...
Red Sea Deco Art Candy Aquavase-Clear at Big Al's Online

and...

Red Sea Deco Art Nano Filter-Clear at Big Al's Online

i thought these werw pretty dang awesome. why not make a pico? even if i get these things i will still be able to get the LR for my 30 gal tank... just because i dont have the money for the other things i need to add the LR to the tank doesnt mean it will hurt to let the LR sit in a rubbermaid container, and develope... its strategig thinking. lol, i am purposely slowing myself down... if i do this, it wil hold me off on saving for my cleanup crew and skimmer, making me let the rock grow, and develope more goodies.

i was thinking of getting these, and adding a little aragonite from my 30 gallon, and buying a little piece of live rock. this is pretty dang cool. my mom loves the look of SW aquariums, and always tells me i need more life rock, because she likes watching it change. i have a space to the left of the computer that we share, and thought it would be just as cool for me as it would be for her if i could put it there.

would i be able to keep a coral in it? maybe mushrooms or zoos? if so, what kind of lighting would i need?

well if it is next to a computer plus the light you should be able to keep it 75+ degrees, just set it up and check it out. Could be a prob in winter or summer, depending on how hot or cold you let room temp get.I would be just a little worried about dumping 2.5 gallons on my computer. You could keep some cool corals in there, maybe even try to get some natural sunlight on that bad boy...would do wonders for corals.

i saw one of those, but it said it raises the temp about 5 degrees or whatever... is there any chance it could get too high since it doesnt have a shutoff point or something? also, since the tanks lotus suggested are a bit higher than i'd have liked to spend... i may have to wait untill my 30 gallon project is further along. doing this would set me back farther than i'd like to.

I have 13w light over my fuge and I have mushrooms in it....doing fine.....I also had only 26 watts over a 10g and it was plenty for polyps and shrooms....and I had a small finger leather and toadstool under those lights. It isnt the wattage but the ability of the light to penetrate the water and in a small 1g pico it shouldn't be that bad. I wouldn't try sps or even some lps but polyps etc should be okay. I would think that a 1g would be subject to wider temp variations with the ambient room temp. Though the light would assist in heating.....maybe too much? It would be something to try though....

lmao.....what is your water change amount....1 cup a week? just kidding.....you will see wider fluctuations with parameters as evap is tough to keep up with in that small volume.
