No this isnt fish related but it is a very heartbreaking occurance, and it also shows how so few places in the state of florida care about pets!

Last night at about 10:30 pm i was sitting at my computer which is next to a window facing my street, and i heard a car approching and then a very loud THUD, i didnt think much about it because we have a pothole outside, but shortly after that my dogs began barking very loud and very irritated about somthing, i went and told my husband about it and we decided to go see if there was something out there. We let the dogs in first, they seemed pretty up set, well when we went outside there was a very large White german shepherd lying dead in the road. If i had known that someone intentionally hit this dog i would have tried my best to help it out, there were no brakes and they didnt stop to see if the dog was ok. I immediatly called the police to let them know of the occurance and my answer from them was "we will have dot come pick it up in the morning." i asked if tey were going to try and find the person who did this and they replied " no we cant do anything about it because we didnt see it happen." So no justice will be served for the un-needed death of this beautiful creature. I feel so sorry for whoever lost this dog it was beautiful.

( And by the way it was a full moon, white dog on a black road, and the car had headlights, I know they saw the dog they just didnt care, i hope it caused some major dammage to their car/truck.)

I get really annoyed around here when people let their dogs roam around the streets. If you care about your pet, you need to keep it in your yard or in your house. There are a lot of people out there that don't care one iota about animals, so it's up to the owner to be responsible.

That is really to bad, a white german (or white canadian shephard is my dream dog)
Lotus, i do agree it is up to the owner, although sometimes things happen and the owner doesnt know, like a dog digging under a fence or such. :(

Sorry to hear what happened*thumbsdow . It sucks to have people in our world who just do not care about anyone or anything except for what matters to them. Could you imagine a family waking up in the morning or getting home at night to only find out that their dog is gone and it will never return. Lotus I do agree with you point of view that owners should keep a hold on their pets. Also some people have to let their dogs out and maybe then go to work? If the dog was locked up in the owners backyard in a big cage and then it got out, it is not anyones fault except for the bad person that hit it with their vehicle.

=/ it happends here in indiana like nothin' I've started to just ignore it cause there is absolutly nothing that we or they can do, even if the police tried. the person was possably long gone and without a licents plate you cant really find them for animal abuse. And all that would happen was a fine of 500. So it's not really much for animals these days, chicago was even asking people not long ago to kill or take in wild cats to be purposly put down, or you could shoot them yourself without any remorse from the animal dept. And not long ago peoplel where killing prairy dogs that people had just so that the "suspected" monkeypox wouldint break out =/ when in the end they leave the one who BROUGHT the monkeypox into the usa called the Gambian pouched rat, and it wouldint have goten infected if they where in a cleaner world in mongolia. Since then people kill ground squrells and prairy dogs mersalusly here and theres nothing we can do about it...

Also people purposly make a game here in indiana to hit any passing bird, squrell or cat that passes the rode, and other then every once in awhile people hit dears, racoons, minks, hawks, foxes, cats, badgers, dogs, rabbits and cyoties without a care in the world, even saw it once and called on it but cause it was a cyote they didint give a crud =/.

I feel bad for the dog, last winter I saw a Pure bred german sheperd at the gas station that was just run over and there was no way to help him cause he was bleeding. So we had to leave him behind but everyone els just ran over em T_T.... Theres no way to stop a world of people who hate the hell out of nature and it's bounties, I'm even being suggested to kill the rabbits around my house and put traps out that kill raccoons cause there "muderers" But I just think "looks whos talking" and sometimes tell them that =/ they just say somethin' nasty and go away...

And lotus =/ I'm pretty sure that everyone here doesint "purposly" relate carelessly to their animals, sometimes people dont expect these things and they dont have the money for some freeky fence hook up that shocks their dog when they walk passed, other then that the dog will most possativly find a way out of the back yard or house, mine are cept in cennles almost 100% of the time cause of the dangers they could get into around the house. The one time we let are dog outside she had a sesure cause she never smelled fresh air! and that was are fault in overprotection. one way or another your doomed if you do and if you dont =/ it's not the owners fault. Trust me. And if they are loose with the owners, they are most lily trained ^^ so no worries there. And sometimes when they are loose, it's not the owners fault a dog can jump 9 feet right into the air if they wanted to =/ mine would and I have no choice but to let it cause its well... almost 100 pounds heavier then me O_O and I've been raised with her as kinda.. a sister =D

If I touch her in any bad way she will most likly bite me, but I take that into consideration and thats exactly why shes not outside. And we have a second dog that can run over 30 miles a hour X_X Darn ten year old collie doesint know shes old! lolXD but we love the hell outa them and if she got loose by breaking threw a window or something theres nothing in the world we could do cause we cant catch her * we only run 8 miles a hour* Knowing people with doggie doors to their house, the dog most likly dug out or jumped over it's fence. It may be anoying , but thats why when you see a dog, aproch it with causion but take it right back to where it came from and warn the owners that if you see it again =D they wont see it again! we did that twice and the dogs we did it too where never to be seen out of the house again XD. but we arnt about to bar areselfs into the house to keep us and the dogs prisoners. We need are freedom o_o and if the dog is like my sis-like german shepered, there is no way in gods name you will find me chacing her with a leash down the rode LOLXD

Sorry to hear about the dog, but even a white dog with the full moon and black road could have been hard to see, especially if the dog ran out in front of the car. Now that doesn't excuse the driver for not stopping. In California we have both a leash law (dog should not be out roaming free) and a law that you must stop and render some assistance if you hit a dog (even if just to report it to animal control)

What I don't understand is how people don't secure their animals better, I mean most people consider the dog to be part of the family, and you would be thrown in jail for child endangerment for letting a 5 year old walk in the street at 10:30 pm, so do you think the dog is smarter than a 5 year old? Or less likely to do something that would endanger themselves?

While this is tragic, it was also avoidable by the owners of the dog (i know sometimes they manage to get out, but we don't know if that's the case)

I do agree that people should secure their dogs , but i live in an area that has no animal control, no leash laws, and a bunch of rednecks that let aggressive dogs run loose to bite people, my dog got attacked by a neibors american bulldog that they let free roam the neighborhood. My dog was tied up to a tree because we were repairing the fence. I went to confront them about it and all they said was "ohh well" The cops around here dont do anything about animal cruelty or controling the stray population., And i dont believe that the owners of the dog that got hit knew their dog got out they were looking for him yesterday and were pretty upset to find him on the side of the road. I think it was just an accident that the dog got out.
