its really easy to find and cheap.

would anyone suggest a different rock that i can find at homedepot or osh?

im just going to test it not really going to make hundreds of lbs of it...maybe less then a lb just to c wat i can get out of it

will the DIY live rock help with filtration?
somepeople say it does but not as effective as the real thing but others say it just spreads coral line.

i kinda need it for filtration mostly...wont mind if i buy around 20lbs of it but it really adds up later...

DIY live rock will never be as good as the real thing, as it may have the corraline algae, but it'll never have the hitchhikers, as those can't be 'transferred' so the only thin you will see on your DIY live rock is corraline algae.....

besides the coral line algae there will be a good amount of bacterium as a bio filtration?

yes. I think when you read it isn't as good they mean that it doesn't have the added life that ocean rock would have. It will eventually be populated with the same beneficial bacteria that true live rock does and provide filtration
