have you ever thought of making one big sump/fuge in the middle and have both tanks drain into 1 sump?? definitly somthing to think about and yes im jealous... no matter how nice your tank is theres always someone with something u dont have

Can we discuss this issue and throw some ideas around as to how I would go about doing this?

well it can be as simple as a big rubbermaid container as the sump (since u wont see it) and simply put a HOB overflow box on each tank that will drain into the sump.... of course youll need 2 return pumps one for each tank... if u decide on a fuge youll wanna make some baffles to section off the fuge and get a light.....

You should also consider that your skimmer and macroalgae will have to be efficient enough for the entire volume of water. You'll need to be doubly careful about quarantining all fish and corals (and maybe inverts too).
