Let me give you the background on Pericles (greek god of fire, thought he needed a strong name) before I ask my question.
I have a texas cichlid who is mostly blind. One eye is completely damaged, the other he may have some sight, maybe just movement. I rescued him this way. All I know is that he was attacked by the other fish in his tank at the pet store and his eyes were damaged, but had healed by the time I got adopted him. He will not go to the top of the tank, I am assuming he was attacked by the other fish when he tried to eat as I know happens with smaller and/of weaker fish sometimes. He has two spots to hide and goes back and forth between them. The tank is a ten gallon, he is about four inches. I will get a bigger tank as needed, but don't want to freak him out with a big tank that may contain "enemies" he has to watch out for, or which he has to get used to getting around in until I need to. I didn't know what to feed him at first and tried a combination of freeze dried blood worms, sinking pellets, floating pellets, freeze dried tubifex worms and flakes. I have had him over a year and have never seen him eat, although obviously he does. Now he is fine on sinking pellets mostly with other stuff for variety.
After that long story, here is my question: is there anything I should put in there with him, SHOULD I put anything in with him? I'm just a sucker for fish having friends, lol. I don't want him to attack or be attacked or scared. I assume the answer is no, just leave him as he is, but thought I would ask opinions just to be sure. Thank you!

I know this doesn't answer your question, but...

I think Hephaestus (Roman Name: Vulcan) was the god of fire. If it isn't... then I may be in trouble when I take my midterm for my Greek Mythology class in a few weeks . I believe Pericles was a politician.

You're right, Pericles is the Greek god of peace, that's why I picked it, my mix up (and bad memory). You're also right, that doesn't answer my question, lol, but thank you for refreshing my memory. Let's hope this doesn't turn into a name discussion now....

Haha, sorry if that derails your thread. I would've answered your question, but I don't really know anything about texas cichlids, other than what I've read/heard about them. I did know who the Greek God of Fire was though, thanks to one of my classes. :)

Do tx cichlids get big? I can't remember.

4" in a 10 gal, I would leave him by himself simply from the bio-load. Once you get him into a larger tank, depending on it's size, you could try some dithers to get him out more. Also increasing his cover (fake plants and such) could help him now.

Mythology is great isn't it? :)

Yeah, he pretty much needs to be moved asap. Into at least a 55gal to grow properly, or you'll do more damage to him. Once he's in the bigger tank, you should try adding something like giant danios to help draw him out.
