i've had a pair of convicts in my 29 gallon tank for approx. 4 months (that's really an estimate, i'm not sure when exactly i got 'em!). they are in there with 9 tiger barbs and 2 small plecos (1 rubberlip + 1 clown).

strangely, i have yet to get con babies. i honestly don't REALLY need them (babies, that is), so i wouldn't be too concerned, except that i know it's very strange for a healthy pair of cons to not have babies! i haven't even had any eggs, that i know of.

admittedly, i'm probably not quite as good about water changes as i should be... but i'm not terrible, and i don't think my bioload is too rediculous.

both cons are pretty small - the female is probably 1.5 in, the male, 2 in. they seem to like one small cave in particular, and at one point, they'd even dug some of the gravel out from beneath... i thought surely i'd see some eggs soon after, but alas, nothing. any idea what could be going on here? let me know if pics and/or water specs would help in deciphering my problem. :)

thanks,
jessey

Hmm...maybe they're too young? that would be my guess anyway. 1.5-2 inches seems pretty small for cons to be breeding. Is the female fat? if not then she prob isnt full of eggs yet and not yet old enough to breed.

I have witnessed smaller pairs than yours guarding free-swimming fry on numerous occasions. I'm surprised yours haven't yet spawned.

Are you absolutely certain you have a male and a female?
Any pics of the convicts? (broadside shot preferrable)
