i know this will sound like a stupid question but i just filled my 40g yesterday and there is bubbles everywhere.. the heater and the plants are covered in bubbles and the glass has a lot of bubbles on it to.. is that normal or not?

oh yes and i had another question.. is a 200gph filter good enough for a 40g tank?

When I do a large water chane I get the same thing. The Bubbles are just Air. They will go away, or you can wipe them off. The 200GPH filter will be fine on a 40G it is 5X turn over.

The bubbles are normal; they're caused when you fill up the tank. I usually get them in layers around the tank; I think they look really cool. Get some water flow in there and they'll go away.

Yeah, expect bubbles everytime you do a large water change or when you initially fill up your tank. They go away within a day or so.

I found that they are "caused"(lol) by... if you get water out of your tap the water is aerated (sp?) coming out of the faucet and when the water goes in the tank the water is basically supersaturated with oxygen....hence the formation of bubbles *thumbsup2
