One of my 6 rummy-nose tetras (tank is listed in my signature) has stopped schooling with the other 5. In my experience, this is not a sign of a well adjusted rummy.

It hangs low at the back of the tank, hardly moving around at all. Sometimes its breathing seems labored. Sometimes it forms up with the rest to eat, other times not. There are no signs of ich or obvious illness with any of the fish, and water parameters are all good.

Anyone witness this type of behavior before? Anyone understand the cause?

One of my danios is doing sort of the same thing. I've watched it closely though and even though sometimes it looks like its not doing so well, its still eating and when I scare it out of its hiding place between the heater and the glass I can't tell any difference between it and the others :)

Maybe its just being moody? hehe sorry no great advice. Maybe watch and look for any changes in physical appearance that could clue you in on whats going on...

Whenever I had Neons, in every school I had there was always one that stayed away from the group. Thats my experiance, and I think it just looks like he is breathing hard because he is all bye himself and is easyer to focus on....at least thats what I told myself.

that sucks =(

hows his color? that's the best indicator for rummynose I've found.

I recently added 3 rummynose for a total of 8, for the first day there was one who just hung out alone up in the floating water lettuce, I decided right off he was a goner, but the next day he was schooling with the rest, and is doing pretty well now.

I dunno how to help, just that frequent water changes really keep these guys tip top. Try varying their diet a bit.

Yea. I've definitely been spot on with the water changes (mulitple times per week). I woke up the next morning and that rummy (I assume it was that one) was dead.

It's bad. I really like Rummy-Nose, but this stresses out my girlfriend who hates it when the fish die. I'm beginning to understand why people call them "Crummy-Nose".
