Undergarvel Filter

I am getting ready to set up a 20 long and I was wanting to put an undergravel filter in it, but I also want to use sand as my substrate. I was wondering if I could use an undergravel filter with sand. Its for my male and female convicts.

Don't use an undergravel filter. It is ineffective, inefficient, and a lot of garbage builds up under it. Go with a power filter.

Yea, i had one and broke it the first time i had to change it because it made me so mad.Stupid undergravel filters!

And the cichlids will dig into the substarte and make it useless.

With so many new power filters on the market, undergravel filters really are old fashioned. Personally, I think they cause more mess than clean up. Waste builds up under the filter plates and needs to be cleaned out, which means you have to take the whole tank apart everytime you clean it. They also won't work with sand. Go power filter or sponge.
