Okay, the only brand I've ever used for a long time is from WalMart. If I remember correctly, its either TopFin or AquaTech. I've seen many more brands while I'm researching on Goldfish. Can someone tell me the BEST UGF brand?

So, I've been using AquaTech. I always have bad memory randomly. They are not POS! I've noticed dramatic increase of water clarity when UGF are used.

LOL..I like how Lotus was able to use my comment with class involved.
<---has little to no class. :D

They do work Thunder, I will give them that. But they are a PITA to clean. To clean one you pretty much have to break the tank down. Your tank is a crash waiting to happen if this cleaning is neglected. All that mulm collects and concentrates under those plates.

Now if you really want to use one, I suggest you buy some power heads to fit on the uplift tube. This forces the UGF to work backwards so mulm doesn't collect under the plates as bad. Even then a break down of the tank needs to be done about once a yr depending on how messy your fish are and what your other means of filtration is.

I uses both HOB and UGF. I've been poundering on the Powerheads and was not sure which is the most effective at bringing oxygen to the surface and throughout the tank.

Air pump with air stones bring flow of oxygen to the surface, which bring fresh air to the surface under the hood with excellent exchange at the surface. At the same time, oxygen is pulled down thru the water to the bottom of the gravels for the good bacterias and providing enough oxygen for all of the fishies.

As for the Powerheads, I do not see how they bring fresh oxygen to the water, especially when they only push the water down thru the tube and up thru the gravels. Its water circulation, but not the results that I am searching for.

The use of the air pump with air stones provide abundance amount of oxygen.

The UGF that I've used in my past 10G tanky for 3 years have never crashed. The tank was well maintained and overstocked, but never have any problem. At the final moment of the tanky in my possession, the bottom of the UGF was clean.

As GSI Guy already pointed out, air bubbles in the water do nothing to add oxygen to a tank. It is the movement of the surface of the water that actualy creates gas exchange. Bubbles move the surface, as well as power heads or anything else that will create water movement.

I agree. Having two air stones bring much more movement at the top. I'm trying to say, it brings fresh air to the top of the water surface. The movement of the surface releases gas from the water and oxygenate the water. The HOB does this job too, but having more movement exchanges doesn't hurt. :)

The Powerheads, yes, but there would still be same old air at the top of the water, because the hood is nearly closed off. The air stones bring fresh oxygen to the top of the water, under the hood, is what I am saying.

Edit - fresh not free

your theory does make full sense, but i would go with the HOB and ditch the UGF, the HOB gets most everything before the UGF, and the HOB should be adequate enough to oxygeninate(sp?) the water, but im not sure, wut kind of HOb do you have? You could always put an airstone in there with the HOB without the UGF, using your theory, basically the same thing, but no annual cleaning.
