They do work very well. Bigtime area for bacteria to set up shop. A very robust filter, only hitch is you have to gravel vac regularly...seems a hitch with any tank set up, but people get crazy about it with UGF. If you can set up a reverse UGF with a powerhead to avoid the every year or two breakdown of the tank ritual.

I can assure you they do work. They seem to work better for commercial setups than for casual hobbyists oddly ...... presumably if it's your job you have more time for gravel hoovering.
