Unhealthy coloring, or just uncommon?

Okay, so my friend got me a second betta. He's beautiful, don't get me wrong, but I, personally, have never seen this color on a betta. I've seen the basic blue, red, blue/red/black combo, red/purple combo, and variations of white with color and even a pink or two. But this guy, who we named Jack Gladious, is literally gold-fish yellow. Sometimes, when the sun brightens the room, a bright banana color. He looks like the common golds in the tank, and even separated he is still that odd color, and his gills are black. It's just strange to me, I guess, but is he ill? Or just uncommon to my lack of betta color knowledge...?

let's see some pictures!

Also, did I read correctly that he's in the same tank as goldfish? I'm thinking that's not a good combination. Someone else with more knowledge should probably verify that.
