Unrelated Threads??

Apparently we have been "infiltrated" by people that are not a part of the forum. Almost every day so far this year there has been either a thread or reply that is unrelated and it is always a "first post". Is there anyway to stop this?

Not really. It's spam and it happens. Just hit the 'report this post' button and one of the mods will get to as soon as we can.

Just keep reporting them as spam. That's about all we can do. Also, I've noticed old threads being dredged up by these spam bots and then regular members commenting on the thread as well. For example, there was a thread from 2004 that was dredged up by a spam bot who was typing in Cyrillic (probably Russian) and Jamie commented on it as well.

Yeah! as bass said, it confused me, and i commented thinking it was recent. I have seen a few of these, and the one that i commented on was the first one that tricked me!

Also watch out that some of the posts that at first seem to be a new member introducing him/herself are spam too - notice the identical (non-sensical) grammar . . . .

oh do you think that the 'dan saltman' is a spam lauraf? hes now made two introductions and in the second he said it was his first, if that makes sense?

A lack of moderators, plus a lack of traffic to a site seems to produce spammers and link boosters. Partly they're looking for you to click accidentally and partly they're hoping their links to some stupid site stay on this one so they get a higher google rating.

I'm guessing a new program is out there the spammers are using to get past the current controls.

Please continue reporting and we'll continue removing the spam until we can get an update for the bot-blocking software.
